Nougat bar recipe

A delightful treat featuring soft, chewy nougat bars filled with nuts and a hint of sweetness. Perfect for dessert or a snack!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup almonds or mixed nuts, toasted
  • Optional: chocolate for coating

Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper. Lightly grease it with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, honey, and water. Stir and heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring, and cook until it reaches 250°F (use a candy thermometer to check).
  4. While the sugar mixture is cooking, beat egg whites and salt in a stand mixer on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form.
  5. Once the sugar mixture reaches 250°F, carefully pour it into the whipped egg whites in a thin stream while beating on low speed. Be cautious to avoid splashes.
  6. Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat until the mixture thickens and becomes glossy, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Mix in the vanilla extract and toasted nuts. Stir gently to combine.
  8. Quickly pour the nougat mixture into the prepared pan, using a spatula to spread it evenly.
  9. Let the nougat cool completely at room temperature for a few hours or overnight.
  10. Optional: Melt chocolate and dip or drizzle it over the nougat bars once cooled.
  11. Cut the nougat into bars and store in an airtight container.

Enjoy your homemade nougat bars!
