INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- ¾ cup warm water (adjust as needed)
- 2 tbsp oil (vegetable or olive)
- Extra oil or butter for cooking
INSTRUCTIONS
- Activate Yeast:
In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Sprinkle in the yeast, stir, and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy. - Make the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and oil. Mix until a dough forms. - Knead the Dough:
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If it’s too sticky, add a little flour. - First Rise:
Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size. - Shape the Dough:
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions (4–6 pieces). Shape each into a ball or flatten slightly for rounds. - Second Rise (optional but helps fluffiness):
Cover the shaped dough with a cloth and let them rest for another 15–20 minutes. - Cook on Stovetop:
Heat a non-stick skillet or heavy pan over low to medium heat. Lightly oil or butter the pan. Place a dough round into the pan, cover with a lid, and cook for 3–5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Flip once. - Serve:
Brush with butter or olive oil while warm. Serve with dips, curries, or eat as is!
