No-Bake Creamy Custard Delight Recipe

This light and refreshing no-bake custard is a breeze to make and requires no oven. It’s a perfect dessert for warm weather or when you want something sweet without the fuss.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ground nutmeg or cinnamon for topping (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a medium saucepan, whisk together the heavy cream, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks.
  2. Temper the Egg Yolks:
    • Gradually whisk about 1/2 cup of the warm cream mixture into the egg yolks to temper them. This prevents the yolks from scrambling when added to the hot liquid.
  3. Cook the Custard:
    • Pour the tempered egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining cream mixture.
    • Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the custard thickens and comes to a gentle simmer.  
    • Continue to cook for 1-2 minutes, whisking constantly, until the custard is smooth and thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  4. Add Vanilla Extract:
    • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Cool and Chill:
    • Pour the custard into individual serving dishes or a larger serving bowl.
    • Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the custard to prevent a skin from forming.  
    • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until completely chilled and set.  
  6. Garnish and Serve:
    • Before serving, sprinkle the top of the custard with ground nutmeg or cinnamon, if desired.
    • Serve chilled.
