Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground cloves (optional)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- ½ cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and oil until well combined. Add eggs, one at a time, then mix in applesauce and vanilla.
- Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Stir until just combined—do not overmix.
- Add extras (optional): Fold in nuts and/or raisins if using.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and serve: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy!
