- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 cup sugar (or brown sugar for deeper flavor)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts or raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a large bowl, whisk together sugar and oil until combined. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in vanilla and applesauce.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in nuts or raisins if using.
- Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
