Naan Bread Easy Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (preferably full-fat)
  • 1/4 cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or melted butter)
  • 1/2 cup warm water (adjust as needed)

Instructions

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and sugar.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate small bowl, mix the yogurt, warm milk, and olive oil (or melted butter).
  3. Form the Dough: Slowly add the yogurt mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring gently. Gradually add warm water, a little at a time, until the dough comes together and is soft but not sticky. You may need slightly more or less water depending on the flour.
  4. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  5. Rest the Dough: Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  6. Divide and Roll: Once rested, divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then roll each ball into a flat oval or round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cook the Naan: Heat a non-stick skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, place one naan onto the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes on the first side, until bubbles start to form. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side, until golden brown and slightly charred.
  8. Optional – Brush with Butter: Brush the hot naan with melted butter or ghee for extra flavor.
  9. Serve: Serve warm with your favorite curry, hummus, or as a side to your meal. Enjoy your homemade naan!
