INGREDIENTS
For the Sandwich
- 8 slices bread (white, sourdough, or sandwich bread)
- 4 slices chicken ham or turkey ham
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter (softened)
For the Creamy Sauce (Optional – Croque Style)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Prepare the Sauce (Optional)
- Melt butter in a pan on low heat.
- Add flour and stir for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in milk while whisking.
- Cook until thick and smooth.
- Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Set aside.
Step 2: Assemble the Sandwich
- Butter one side of each bread slice.
- Place bread butter-side down.
- Add cheese, ham, then more cheese.
- Cover with another slice of bread (buttered side up).
Step 3: Cook the Sandwich
- Heat a pan on medium heat.
- Place sandwich in pan.
- Cook 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
- Flip carefully and cook until cheese melts.
Step 4: Optional Topping
- Spread creamy sauce on top.
- Sprinkle extra cheese.
- Grill in oven for 2–3 minutes until bubbly.
