My Grandma’s Homemade Snack, Simple, Healthy and Incredibly Delicious: Potato Patties or Croquettes

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 large potatoes (boiled and mashed)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander or parsley (chopped)
  • 1 green chili (optional, finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric (optional, for color)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder or seeds
  • 1 egg (for coating)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (for coating)
  • 1–2 tbsp oil (for shallow frying or spray for air frying)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Prepare the Mash
In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, chopped onion, green chili, coriander, spices, and salt. Mix well until fully blended.
  2. Shape the Patties
Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into small round patties or oval croquettes.
  3. Coat for Crispiness
Beat the egg in a small bowl. Dip each patty in the egg, then coat with breadcrumbs. Set aside on a tray.
  4. Cook
    • For pan-frying: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry each patty until golden brown on both sides (about 3–4 minutes per side).
    • For air-frying: Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F). Spray the patties with a bit of oil and air-fry for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  5. Serve Hot
Serve warm with chutney, ketchup, or yogurt dip.

🌿 Tip: You can add grated carrots, peas, or shredded chicken for variety.
