Ingredients
- 1 large onion, peeled
- 6-8 whole cloves
- 4 cups chicken or beef broth (or water)
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 garlic cloves, smashed
- 1 carrot, chopped
- 1 celery stalk, chopped

- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Take the peeled onion and press the cloves into it evenly around the surface.
- In a large pot, bring the broth (or water) to a gentle simmer.
- Add the clove-studded onion, bay leaves, garlic, carrot, celery, salt, pepper, and thyme.
- Let it simmer for about 30-45 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.
- Remove the onion, bay leaves, and any large vegetable pieces before serving.
- Use this fragrant broth as a base for soups, sauces, or stews!
