Ingredients
- 12 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into bite-sized cubes or sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons water or milk
- 1 ½ cups breadcrumbs (Italian seasoned or plain)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- ½ teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Marinara sauce, for dipping (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Coating Stations:
- Place flour in a shallow bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs with water (or milk).
- In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried herbs, salt, and pepper.
- Coat the Cheese:
- Dip each mozzarella piece first into the flour, coating it lightly.
- Then dip into the egg mixture, making sure it’s fully covered.
- Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
- For an extra crispy bite, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating one more time.
- Freeze for 30 minutes:
- Place coated cheese bites on a tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This prevents cheese from melting too quickly while frying.
- Heat the Oil:
- In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the Cheese Bites:
- Fry the bites in batches for about 1-2 minutes or until golden brown. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove bites and drain on paper towels.
- Serve:
- Serve hot with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce.
