Mozzarella Fried Cheese Bites

Ingredients

  • 12 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into bite-sized cubes or sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons water or milk
  • 1 ½ cups breadcrumbs (Italian seasoned or plain)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Coating Stations:
    • Place flour in a shallow bowl.
    • In another bowl, whisk eggs with water (or milk).
    • In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried herbs, salt, and pepper.
  2. Coat the Cheese:
    • Dip each mozzarella piece first into the flour, coating it lightly.
    • Then dip into the egg mixture, making sure it’s fully covered.
    • Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
    • For an extra crispy bite, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating one more time.
  3. Freeze for 30 minutes:
    • Place coated cheese bites on a tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This prevents cheese from melting too quickly while frying.
  4. Heat the Oil:
    • In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the Cheese Bites:
    • Fry the bites in batches for about 1-2 minutes or until golden brown. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove bites and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve hot with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce.
