Moist Chocolate Loaf Cake Recipe

This recipe delivers a rich and decadent chocolate loaf cake with a tender crumb.

Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup granulated sugar  
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
