Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:
- Prepare the Doughnut Maker or Frying Oil: If using a doughnut maker, preheat it. If frying, heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fill Doughnut Molds or Fry:
- For a doughnut maker, spoon batter into the molds, filling each about 3/4 full. Close the lid and cook according to manufacturer’s instructions, usually about 5-7 minutes.
