Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tsp vinegar added)
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using). - Mix Wet Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until well combined. - Combine:
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix. - Heat the Oil:
In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). - Fry the Donut Holes:
Using a small cookie scoop or your hands, carefully drop small balls of dough into the hot oil. Fry in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, turning them occasionally until they are golden brown. - Drain and Coat:
Remove the donut holes with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. While they are still warm, toss them in cinnamon sugar or drizzle with glaze. - Serve:
Enjoy your mini donut holes warm!
Optional Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Mix the ingredients together until smooth and dip the tops of the donut holes in the glaze. Let them set before serving. Enjoy!
