This Mille-Feuille, also known as the Napoleon pastry, is a classic French dessert that layers crispy puff pastry with luscious cream and topped with a sweet glaze. It’s perfect for special occasions or when you want to treat yourself!
Ingredients:
For the Puff Pastry:
- 1 package of frozen puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
For the Cream Filling:
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: cocoa powder or melted chocolate for decoration
Instructions:
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any creases.
- Cut each sheet into rectangles (about 3×5 inches).
- Place the rectangles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Prick the surface with a fork to prevent puffing too much during baking.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden and flaky. Allow to cool completely.
- Make the Cream Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and cornstarch while continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
- Place the whipped cream in a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off for easy assembly.
- Assemble the Mille-Feuille:
- On a serving platter, place one rectangle of puff pastry as the base.
- Pipe a layer of the cream filling over the pastry.
- Top with another rectangle of puff pastry, pressing gently.
- Repeat with another layer of cream and top with a final pastry layer.
- Prepare the Glaze:
- In a bowl, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed.
- Pour the glaze over the top layer of the pastry.
- Decorate:
- Optional: Dust with cocoa powder or drizzle melted chocolate over the glaze for decoration.
- Serve:
- Allow the Mille-Feuille to set in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving. Cut into portions and enjoy your delicious creamy delight!
