Ingredients
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup (120ml) whole milk
- Optional: powdered sugar for dusting or glaze of your choice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square cake pan (or line with parchment paper).
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–5 minutes using a mixer).
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined—do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with your favorite glaze before serving.
