Ingredients

  • For the Cake:
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar:
    In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla:
    Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine with Dry Ingredients:
    Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Prepare Chocolate Mixture:
    In a small bowl, mix the cocoa powder with hot water until smooth. Take about 1 cup of the batter and mix it with the cocoa mixture until fully combined.
  7. Layer the Batter:
    In the prepared loaf pan, add alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate batters. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the batters together gently for a marbled effect.
