Ingredients:

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the macaroni: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the cheese sauce: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
