Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups pecans, chopped
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the granulated and brown sugars.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, melted butter, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the loaf tender.
  5. Fold in Pecans & Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  6. Pour Batter into Loaf Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake: Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool & Serve: Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.
