Ingredients
- 4 tbsp butter (or margarine)
- 5 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 1 chicken bouillon cube
- 2 cups water
- ½ tsp onion powder (optional, for extra flavor)
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add flour and whisk constantly for about 3–4 minutes until it turns a golden brown color (this creates the roux and gives the gravy its flavor).
- Dissolve both bouillon cubes in 2 cups of hot water, then slowly pour the mixture into the saucepan while whisking to avoid lumps.
- Add onion powder and black pepper, then continue whisking until the gravy thickens to your liking (about 3–5 minutes).
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes, fried chicken, or biscuits—just like at KFC!
