Ingredients

  • For the Meatloaf:
    • 1 ½ lbs ground beef
    • ½ lb Italian sausage
    • 1 cup breadcrumbs
    • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (plus extra for topping)
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
    • ½ cup milk
    • 2 tbsp tomato paste
    • 1 tsp dried oregano
    • 1 tsp dried basil
    • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
    • 1 tsp salt
    • ½ tsp black pepper
  • For the Topping:
    • ½ cup marinara sauce
    • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a loaf pan.
  2. Prepare Meatloaf Mixture:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, mozzarella, onion, garlic, eggs, milk, tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are just combined.
  3. Shape the Meatloaf:
Form the mixture into a loaf shape on the prepared baking sheet or press it evenly into a loaf pan.
  4. Add Topping:
Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  5. Bake:
Bake the meatloaf for 45–50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  6. Add Cheese:
Remove the meatloaf from the oven and sprinkle the top with shredded mozzarella. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5–7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Rest and Serve:
Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra marinara sauce, if desired, and enjoy!
