Homemade Vinegar and Baking Soda Soap

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grated castile soap (or natural unscented soap bar)
  • 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 10–15 drops of essential oil (optional — lemon, tea tree, or lavender for fragrance and added cleaning power)

Instructions

  1. Grate the castile soap finely using a box grater or food processor.
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the baking soda in the hot water.
  3. In a medium saucepan over low heat, add the grated soap and the baking soda water mixture. Stir until the soap begins to melt.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vinegar (slowly — it may fizz slightly).
  5. Add essential oils if using, and stir until everything is well combined.
  6. Pour the mixture into silicone molds or a repurposed soap mold.
  7. Let sit at room temperature for 24–48 hours to harden.
  8. Once hardened, remove from molds and store in a cool, dry place.

🧽 To Use:

  • For cleaning: Use directly on countertops, tiles, or sinks.
  • For laundry: Grate a small amount into the wash for extra freshening.

⚠️ Note: This is a cleaning soap — not suitable for use on skin due to the neutralizing effect and possible irritation from vinegar and soda.

Let me know if you’d like a skin-safe version or a liquid cleaner version instead!
