Homemade Vanilla Flan is a smooth, creamy custard dessert topped with a rich golden caramel sauce. INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 can (400g) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (400ml) evaporated milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns golden brown. Quickly pour the caramel into a baking dish, coating the bottom evenly.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs until smooth.
- Add condensed milk, evaporated milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Pour the mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish.
- Place the dish in a larger pan filled with hot water (water bath).
- Bake for 50–60 minutes or until the center is set.
- Remove from oven, let it cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
- Run a knife around the edges and flip onto a serving plate before serving.
TIPS:
- Do not overcook; it should jiggle slightly in the center.
- Use a water bath to prevent cracks and ensure even cooking.
- Let it chill completely for the best texture.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of lemon zest or cinnamon.
