Ingredients
- 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Oil for frying
For the glaze:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate the yeast:
In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. - Mix the dough:
In a large bowl, combine sugar, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Add yeast mixture and stir. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms. - Knead & rise:
Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled. - Shape the donuts:
Roll out dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Use a donut cutter (or two round cutters) to cut out donuts and holes. Place on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let rise again for 30-45 minutes. - Fry to perfection:
Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches, about 1 minute per side, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. - Glaze them:
Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze. Dip warm donuts in the glaze, then let set on a rack.
