Homemade Donuts Recipe

INGREDENT

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ cup warm milk (110°F / 45°C)
  • ¼ cup warm water (110°F / 45°C)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • Oil for frying

Optional for topping:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon (for coating)
  • Chocolate glaze or icing

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, warm milk, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the egg, softened butter, and yeast mixture. Mix until dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick. Cut donuts using a donut cutter (or a round cutter + small cutter for holes).
  7. Place cut donuts on a floured tray, cover lightly, and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
  9. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  10. Coat with cinnamon sugar, dust with powdered sugar, or dip in glaze.

👉 Would you like me to also include a quick no-yeast version (ready in 20 minutes) for when you don’t want to wait for the dough to rise?
