Homemade Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans. Dust them lightly with flour or cocoa powder.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat the mixture until smooth and well combined.
  4. Gradually stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this ensures a moist cake.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Frost and decorate as desired before serving.
