Homemade Chicken Nugget recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 large chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Oil for frying (or cooking spray for baking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Coating Stations:
    • In one bowl, place the flour.
    • In a second bowl, beat the eggs until smooth.
    • In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Coat the Chicken:
    • Dredge each chicken piece in the flour, shaking off excess.
    • Dip the floured chicken into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is fully coated.
    • Roll the chicken in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  3. Cook the Nuggets:
    • For frying: Heat about 1 inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the nuggets in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 3–4 minutes per side.
    • For baking: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the nuggets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and lightly spray with cooking spray. Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
    • For air frying: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Cook the nuggets in a single layer for 10–12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  4. Serve:
    • Remove the nuggets from the oil or cooking surface and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
