- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon oil (for frying)
For the Onion Gravy:
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Make the Hamburger Steaks:
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Mix well and form into 4 equal-sized patties.
- Cook the Patties:
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Onion Gravy:
- In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions.
- Cook over medium heat until onions are soft and golden brown.
- Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the gravy thickens.
- Combine and Serve:
- Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and let simmer for 5 minutes.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
