INGREDIENTS
For the Hamburger Steaks:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp oil (for frying)
For the Onion Gravy:
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
- Make the Hamburger Steaks:
In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Form the mixture into 4 oval patties. - Cook the Steaks:
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side or until browned and cooked through.
Remove patties and set aside. - Make the Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter.
Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and golden, about 10 minutes.
Sprinkle in flour and stir for 1–2 minutes to cook out the raw flavor.
Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
Simmer until the gravy thickens (5–7 minutes).
Season with salt and pepper to taste. - Combine and Simmer:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet.
Spoon some of the gravy and onions over the top.
Cover and simmer on low heat for 10 minutes to let flavors meld.
Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Enjoy! 😋
