Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the hamburger patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 6-8 patties.
- Cook the patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Remove patties from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the gravy: In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook over medium heat until softened and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth, tomato paste, red wine vinegar, and sugar. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the gravy has thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Return the hamburger patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Serve the hamburger steaks with gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Enjoy!
