- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space for spreading.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers are still soft — don’t overbake to keep them gooey!
- Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely (or enjoy warm!).
