Gooey Butter Bars Recipe

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the filling:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Bake for 15 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  4. While the crust is baking, prepare the filling. In a large bowl, beat butter and cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until creamy. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour filling over the hot crust.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until edges are set and center is slightly jiggly.
  7. Let cool completely before cutting into bars.
