Ingredients
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (or a block cut into 3-inch sticks)
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Marinara sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
- Prepare the cheese:
Cut mozzarella into sticks if using a block. Place sticks in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up—this helps prevent melting during frying. - Set up breading station:
- In one bowl, add the flour.
- In a second bowl, whisk the eggs with milk.
- In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Coat the cheese:
Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, dip into the egg mixture, then coat in seasoned breadcrumbs.
For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating (double coating). - Chill again:
Place breaded sticks on a tray and freeze for another 30 minutes (this helps them hold their shape when frying). - Fry:
Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry mozzarella sticks in small batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pan. - Drain and serve:
Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
