Golden Crispy Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (or a block cut into 3-inch sticks)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Marinara sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cheese:
Cut mozzarella into sticks if using a block. Place sticks in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up—this helps prevent melting during frying.
  2. Set up breading station:
    • In one bowl, add the flour.
    • In a second bowl, whisk the eggs with milk.
    • In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the cheese:
Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, dip into the egg mixture, then coat in seasoned breadcrumbs.
For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating (double coating).
  4. Chill again:
Place breaded sticks on a tray and freeze for another 30 minutes (this helps them hold their shape when frying).
  5. Fry:
Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry mozzarella sticks in small batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  6. Drain and serve:
Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
