Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1½ cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add the warm water and oil, then mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  6. Let it rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown and it sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Let it cool before slicing. Enjoy your soft, spongy bread!
