Garlic Butter Steak and Potatoes Skillet Recipe

This one-pan dish is a hearty and flavorful meal that’s perfect for a quick weeknight dinner. Tender steak bites and golden potatoes are cooked in a rich garlic butter sauce, making it an irresistible combination.  

Ingredients:

  • Steak:
    • 1.5 pounds sirloin steak or ribeye, cut into 1-inch cubes  
  • Potatoes:
    • 1.5 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Garlic & Butter:
    • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
    • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Olive Oil:
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Seasonings:
    • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Garnish:
    • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
    • Cut the steak into 1-inch cubes.
    • Cut the potatoes into 1-inch cubes.
    • Mince the garlic.
    • Chop the parsley for garnish.
  2. Season the Steak and Potatoes:
    • In a large bowl, toss the steak cubes with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, salt, and pepper.
    • In a separate bowl, toss the potato cubes with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook the Potatoes:
    • Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat.
    • Add the potato cubes and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and tender.
  4. Cook the Steak:
    • Push the potatoes to one side of the skillet.
    • Add the steak cubes to the other side of the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked to your desired doneness.
  5. Make the Garlic Butter Sauce:
    • Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and minced garlic to the skillet.
    • Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the garlic is fragrant.
  6. Combine and Serve:
    • Stir the steak and potatoes together in the garlic butter sauce.
    • Garnish with chopped parsley.
    • Serve immediately.

  • Steak Doneness: Adjust the cooking time for the steak to your desired doneness.
  • Potato Variety: You can use other types of potatoes, such as red potatoes or russet potatoes, but Yukon Gold potatoes are recommended for their creamy texture.
  • Vegetable Additions: Feel free to add other vegetables, such as onions, bell peppers, or mushrooms, to the skillet.
