- 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined (optional)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup chicken broth (or water)
- Red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients:
- Slice the smoked sausage and chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces.
- Peel and devein the shrimp if using.
- Dice the onion and mince the garlic.
- Cook the Sausage:
- In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté Onion & Garlic:
- In the same skillet, add the butter and allow it to melt.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until softened and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
- Cook the Cabbage:
- Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring well.
- Sprinkle with paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Pour in the chicken broth (or water) and cover the skillet. Let it cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage softens.
- Add Shrimp (Optional):
- If using shrimp, add the shrimp to the pan in the last 3-4 minutes of cooking, stirring occasionally until the shrimp turns pink and is cooked through.
- Combine:
- Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and stir everything together.
- If you like extra heat, sprinkle some red pepper flakes over the top.
- Serve:
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve hot.
