Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion & Garlic

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for extra richness)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.
  2. Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Stir well to coat the cabbage in the bacon fat and onion mixture.
  4. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and lightly caramelized. If using, add the butter halfway through cooking for extra flavor.
  5. Stir the crispy bacon back into the cabbage. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  6. Serve warm as a side dish or enjoy it on its own!
