Ingredients
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium head of cabbage, cored and chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for extra richness)
Instructions
- Cook the bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside. Leave about 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the pan.
- Sauté the onion and garlic: Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Cook the cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring well to coat with the bacon grease. Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Sauté until tender: Cook for about 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but not mushy. Add the butter for extra flavor, if desired.
- Finish with bacon: Stir the crispy bacon back into the pan, mix well, and cook for another minute.
- Serve hot: Enjoy as a side dish or a hearty main meal!
