FRIED CABBAGE

Ingredients

  • 1 small head of cabbage, chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 strips of bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage: Slice the cabbage into bite-sized pieces, discarding the tough core.
  2. Cook the bacon: In a large skillet, heat a little olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the chopped bacon and cook until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set it aside, leaving the bacon grease in the pan.
  3. Sauté the onion and garlic: In the same skillet with the bacon grease, add the sliced onion. Cook over medium heat until the onions become soft and caramelized, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Fry the cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Stir well to combine. Drizzle with olive oil or butter if needed, and cook the cabbage until it starts to wilt and get slightly crispy around the edges, about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  5. Season: Season with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika (if using). Stir in the crispy bacon pieces.
  6. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot and enjoy the crispy, flavorful fried cabbage!
