Feta “Lava Cake” with Honey, Walnuts & Figs

🧀 Ingredients

  • 1 block (200–250g) Greek feta cheese
  • 2–3 tbsp honey
  • 6–8 fresh figs, halved (or dried figs, sliced)
  • ¼ cup walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp dried thyme (optional)
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh rosemary or mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
  • Toasted bread or crackers, for serving

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the Feta:
Place the block of feta in a small baking dish. Drizzle olive oil over the top.
  3. Add Toppings:
Scatter chopped walnuts around and slightly over the feta. Arrange the fig halves around the cheese. Sprinkle thyme, red pepper flakes, and black pepper on top.
  4. Bake:
Bake for 15–20 minutes, until the feta is soft and slightly golden on top. The inside will become warm and creamy — like a savory “lava” center.
  5. Finish with Honey:
Remove from the oven and immediately drizzle generously with honey.
  6. Garnish & Serve:
Garnish with fresh herbs and serve warm with toasted bread or crackers.

✨ Tips

  • For extra creaminess, use authentic Greek feta made from sheep’s milk.
  • If you want a crispier top, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end.
  • Add a splash of balsamic glaze for deeper flavor.
  • This dish pairs beautifully with white wine like Sauvignon Blanc.
  • Serve immediately while warm for the best “lava” texture effect.
