Easy Naan Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • ¾ cup warm water (more if needed)
  • Optional: minced garlic, melted butter, chopped cilantro (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  2. Add Wet Ingredients:
Add yogurt and oil. Gradually mix in warm water and knead until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms (about 6–8 minutes).
  3. Let Dough Rise:
Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Divide and Shape:
Punch down the dough and divide it into 6–8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval or round shape (about ¼ inch thick).
  5. Cook the Naan:
Heat a skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Place one naan at a time in the dry skillet and cook for 1–2 minutes, until bubbles form. Flip and cook the other side until golden brown.
  6. Optional Toppings:
Brush hot naan with melted butter or garlic butter and sprinkle with fresh cilantro, if desired.
  7. Serve Warm:
Serve immediately with curries, soups, or dips.
