Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or melted butter)
- ¾ cup warm water (more if needed)
- Optional: minced garlic, melted butter, chopped cilantro (for topping)
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. - Add Wet Ingredients:
Add yogurt and oil. Gradually mix in warm water and knead until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms (about 6–8 minutes). - Let Dough Rise:
Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size. - Divide and Shape:
Punch down the dough and divide it into 6–8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval or round shape (about ¼ inch thick). - Cook the Naan:
Heat a skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Place one naan at a time in the dry skillet and cook for 1–2 minutes, until bubbles form. Flip and cook the other side until golden brown. - Optional Toppings:
Brush hot naan with melted butter or garlic butter and sprinkle with fresh cilantro, if desired. - Serve Warm:
Serve immediately with curries, soups, or dips.
