Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable or olive oil)
- 2/3 cup warm water (adjust as needed)
- 1–2 tablespoons melted butter or ghee (for brushing)
- Optional: chopped garlic, fresh cilantro, or nigella seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Make the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
Add yogurt and oil. Gradually mix in warm water until a soft dough forms. - Knead:
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes (up to 1 hour). - Divide and roll:
Divide dough into 6 equal balls. Roll each ball into an oval or round flatbread (about 1/4 inch thick). - Cook:
Heat a skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
Cook each naan for 1–2 minutes per side until bubbles form and brown spots appear.
Press gently with a spatula for even cooking. - Brush and serve:
Brush hot naan with melted butter or ghee.
Add optional toppings like garlic or cilantro if desired.
