Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp butter (softened)
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add softened butter and mix.
- Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover again and let it rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and it sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from pan and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
