Easy Homemade White Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add softened butter and mix.
  3. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover again and let it rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and it sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Remove from pan and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
