Easy Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water (for a moist texture)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat until smooth and well combined, about 2 minutes.
  4. Slowly add the boiling water to the batter. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay — it helps make the cake moist.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, you can frost with your favorite chocolate frosting or dust with powdered sugar for a simple finish.
