Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- ¼ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ¾ cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder (if using).
- Cut in butter: Add the cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add cheese: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
- Add milk: Pour in the milk and stir gently until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Shape rolls: Scoop or roll the dough into 8–10 equal balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Optional egg wash: Beat the egg and brush it lightly over the tops for a shiny, golden finish.
- Bake: Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed and golden brown.
- Serve: Let cool slightly and enjoy warm!
