Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (cold, cut into cubes)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ¾ cup milk (more if needed)
- 1 egg (for egg wash – optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper. - Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. - Add Butter:
Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. - Add Cheese:
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed. - Add Milk:
Gradually pour in the milk, stirring just until a dough forms. Don’t overmix. - Form Rolls:
Scoop the dough into 8–10 equal portions and place them on the prepared baking sheet. You can gently shape them with your hands if needed. - Egg Wash (Optional):
Beat the egg and lightly brush it over the tops of the rolls for a shiny finish. - Bake:
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. - Cool & Serve:
Let cool slightly and enjoy warm with butter or alongside soup.
