Easy Cheddar Cheese Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (cold, cut into cubes)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¾ cup milk (more if needed)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash – optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add Butter:
Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Cheese:
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  5. Add Milk:
Gradually pour in the milk, stirring just until a dough forms. Don’t overmix.
  6. Form Rolls:
Scoop the dough into 8–10 equal portions and place them on the prepared baking sheet. You can gently shape them with your hands if needed.
  7. Egg Wash (Optional):
Beat the egg and lightly brush it over the tops of the rolls for a shiny finish.
  8. Bake:
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  9. Cool & Serve:
Let cool slightly and enjoy warm with butter or alongside soup.
