This recipe uses pre-made crescent roll dough for a quick and easy breakfast treat that tastes like a bakery-style cheese danish. Filled with a sweet cream cheese mixture and topped with a simple glaze, it’s perfect for a weekend brunch or a special morning treat.

Ingredients:

  • For the Filling:
    • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 large egg yolk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Danish:
    • 2 (8 ounce) cans crescent roll dough
  • For the Glaze:
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 2-3 tablespoons milk (or cream)
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and sugar until smooth and creamy.
    • Beat in the egg yolk and vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. Assemble the Danish:
    • Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a lightly greased baking sheet or 9×13 inch baking dish, pinching the seams together to form a solid sheet.
    • Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the dough.
    • Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long edge, and pinch the seams to seal.
    • Cut the roll into 8-10 slices.
  3. Bake:
    • Arrange the slices cut-side up on the baking sheet or dish.
    • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
    • Let cool slightly.
  4. Prepare the Glaze:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk (or cream), and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk if needed to achieve a drizzling consistency.
  5. Glaze and Serve:
    • Drizzle the glaze over the warm cheese danish slices.
    • Serve immediately.

Tips and Variations:

  • Fruit Filling: Add fruit like berries, apples, or peaches to the cream cheese filling.
  • Citrus Zest: Add lemon or orange zest to the filling for a bright citrus flavor.
  • Almond Extract: Use almond extract instead of vanilla extract for a different flavor.
  • Nuts: Sprinkle chopped nuts like pecans or almonds over the glaze before it sets.
  • Cinnamon: Add a pinch of cinnamon to the filling or sprinkle it over the glaze.
  • Make-Ahead: You can assemble the danish ahead of time and refrigerate it until ready to bake. Add a few minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
