Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup warm milk (110°F)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Shape the Doughnuts: Roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick. Use a doughnut cutter or two round cutters to shape. Place on a parchment-lined tray and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Fry the Doughnuts: Heat oil in a deep fryer or pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Optional Toppings: Dust with powdered sugar, glaze with icing, or coat with cinnamon sugar.
- Serve and Enjoy! Best enjoyed fresh.
