Doughnuts

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Oil, for frying
  • Optional: powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or glaze for coating

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out doughnuts with a doughnut cutter or two round cutters.
  7. Place the cut doughnuts on a floured tray, cover, and let them rest for another 30 minutes.
  8. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the doughnuts in batches for about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  9. Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  10. While still warm, coat with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or dip in glaze.

Enjoy your fresh, fluffy doughnuts! 🍩✨
