Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Oil, for frying
- Optional: powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or glaze for coating
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add the remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Mix well.
- Gradually add the flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out doughnuts with a doughnut cutter or two round cutters.
- Place the cut doughnuts on a floured tray, cover, and let them rest for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the doughnuts in batches for about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- While still warm, coat with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or dip in glaze.
Enjoy your fresh, fluffy doughnuts! 🍩✨
