Don’t Throw Away Orange Peels. Combine With Ginger—It’s Really Powerful, Economical and Practical

Ingredients

  • Peels of 2–3 organic oranges (avoid waxed ones)
  • 1–2 inches fresh ginger root, sliced or grated
  • 2 cups water
  • Optional: 1 tbsp honey or lemon juice (for tea use)
  • Optional: 1 tsp whole cloves or cinnamon stick (for added aroma or potency)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the orange peels thoroughly and cut them into small strips.
  2. Peel and slice or grate the ginger root.
  3. In a small saucepan, bring the 2 cups of water to a boil.
  4. Add the orange peels and ginger (plus any optional spices like cloves or cinnamon).
  5. Lower the heat and let it simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  7. Strain the liquid into a jar or mug.
  8. Use it as:
    • A tea: Add honey or lemon juice and enjoy warm.
    • A natural cleaner: Let it cool, then pour into a spray bottle for a citrus-fresh surface cleaner.
    • A home air freshener: Simmer it uncovered for a refreshing scent throughout your kitchen or house.
