DIY Glass Skin Serum with Aloe Vera and Rice Water

Achieve naturally radiant, smooth, and glowing “glass skin” with this simple homemade serum. Combining the soothing properties of aloe vera with the brightening effects of rice water, this lightweight formula hydrates and revitalizes your skin without the need for heavy makeup. Perfect for all skin types and easy to make with just two ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons pure aloe vera gel (fresh or store-bought, unscented)
  • 2 tablespoons rice water (see preparation below)

Instructions:

  1. Make the Rice Water:
    • Rinse ½ cup of white rice thoroughly to remove dirt or excess starch.
    • Add the rinsed rice to 1 cup of water.
    • Let it soak for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    • Strain and collect the water in a clean container. This is your rice water.
  2. Mix the Serum:
    • In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of rice water with 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel.
    • Mix well using a spoon or whisk until the texture is smooth and slightly gel-like.
    • Pour the serum into a small, clean bottle or jar with a lid.
  3. Store:
    • Keep the serum in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to 5–7 days.
    • Shake well before each use if it separates.
  4. Apply:
    • Cleanse your face thoroughly.
    • Apply 4–5 drops of the serum to your face and neck using clean fingers.
    • Massage gently in upward, circular motions until fully absorbed.
    • Use twice daily — once in the morning and once at night.

Tips:

  • Use fresh rice water each time if you prefer not to refrigerate it.
  • For oily or acne-prone skin, you can add 1–2 drops of tea tree essential oil.
  • For dry skin, add a few drops of jojoba or rosehip oil to increase hydration.
  • Always patch test on a small area of your skin before applying to your face.
  • Use sunscreen during the day as rice water can make your skin more photosensitive.
