Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Optional: sesame seeds or nigella seeds for topping
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8–10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a baking stone or tray inside to heat.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a flat oval or circle, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Place the shaped dough on parchment paper. Use your fingertips to dimple the surface gently.
- Brush the top with olive oil and sprinkle with sesame or nigella seeds if desired.
- Bake on the hot stone or tray for 10–12 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
