Delicious Cruffins

Cruffins are a delicious hybrid pastry combining the flakiness of croissants and the shape of muffins. These sweet, buttery treats are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a delightful snack. With layers of dough filled with a variety of fillings, they are a treat that’s both indulgent and fun to make.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips or chopped fruit (optional)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a muffin tin with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Prepare the Dough: Lay the puff pastry sheets on a flat surface. Brush each sheet generously with melted butter. Sprinkle with granulated sugar and cinnamon (if using). You can also add chocolate chips or chopped fruit for added flavor.
  3. Roll the Pastry: Carefully roll the pastry sheets into tight logs, starting from one edge to the other, to form long cylinders.
  4. Shape the Cruffins: Slice each rolled pastry log into 3-4 equal pieces. Gently twist or fold each slice into the muffin tin, arranging them so that the layers face upwards, resembling a muffin shape.
  5. Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the tops of the cruffins to give them a golden color when baked.
  6. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes or until the cruffins are golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the cruffins cool for a few minutes before removing them from the tin. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, and enjoy warm!

Tip: For a savory version, use cheese and herbs instead of cinnamon and sugar. Experiment with different fillings to customize your cruffins to your taste!
